Cindy: I asked Maitland for a lesson for this week’s blog and she shared the following message. Her lesson is geared toward those of you who are trying to communicate with Spirit, but who are uncertain whether the information you’re receiving is actually coming from Spirit or from your own mind. I’m a gardener, so when I tried to think of an appropriate picture to pair with today’s blog, I thought of perennial flowers. I trust that each year these plants will grow from the ground and then each Spring I carefully clean away the debris from the prior Fall (take action) to discover (awareness) that my trust has been rewarded.

“Trusting the messages you receive from Spirit is like trusting that perennial flowers will sprout from the ground each Spring.” -Cindy Musil
Maitland: How do you tell when it is your own thoughts?
Learning to trust what you get, the first step is to notice things. To be aware. If you are wanting to trust messages that you’re getting, then you need to be able to notice them in the first place. So many times different spirits and your own intuition are coming in and giving you little messages the only way they know how, but you are so busy that you don’t even see it. You think that a message has to hit you between the eyes, but it can be really subtle. Try to open your awareness. If you ask us for messages, then you have to follow up and actually look for them because they might not be instant thoughts.
Try to notice something that’s a little bit out of the ordinary. When you think you have something, ask us to do it again even bigger. Then trust yourself that you are getting a message. Act when you get thoughts in your head like doing automatic writing like we teach in our class. The whole purpose of trusting is trying to get out of the way. But part of getting out of the way is not worrying about whether it is your thoughts or not because it doesn’t matter. A lot of times we will use your thoughts. So it feels exactly like it is your thoughts. But we are trying to use that energy to arrange the thoughts in a way to give you a message. So it is really hard to trust the message if you are worried about who it is.
Look at the message, but don’t worry about necessarily who it is coming from whether it is your own thoughts, Higher Self, or your spirit guides. You’ll be able to learn to separate that later. As long as you set your intention right in the beginning, you know you will be getting messages and you will be able to feel that the message is a real message and that it is for your higher good because that is what you asked for in the first place.
It will resonate with you and you will be able to feel if it is not quite right. The other key part in trusting is considering how it feels to you. If you get a message and it doesn’t feel right, well don’t take it. Even if it’s from Spirit, it has to resonate with you. It may be just a suggestion. Even if it’s meant with love, you may not feel right about it at that time so trust your feelings to guide you.
The biggest key is to try and shift to learn to live from your heart and your emotion center instead of your brain all the time. Your brain is there and your ego is there for a reason to get along in the world, but you are trained so hard into being all in the mind and the ego that I stress switching back to the emotional. It’s that balance between the two—although I stress the emotional part because people are already so trained into doing the logical that they forget to do the emotional and the heart.
