Spirit: Remember the old barbershop quartet song about magnificent men in their flying machines going up, tiddly, up, up and then down, tiddly, down, down?
The rush is always on the upward spiral.
…or is it?
As a pilot speeds toward the ground in an acrobatic maneuver, does his adrenaline not rush as fast? Of course it does. The exercise of going up and coming down can both be exhilarating.
So many times humans judge up vs. down in the same way they judge good vs. bad. These are not necessarily accurate reflections of one’s life experience. Bad might just BE. No judgment, it just is an opposite to the other word “good”, which helps you to understand both terms better and also helps one to experience duality and the changes between terms that are opposite. In this way, “bad” no longer is a judgment of being something that isn’t desired, but rather is a way to understand an experience or a variety of experiences on this earth.
So….back to up, tiddly, up…
The next time you see an airshow and you see a plane headed down at a fast rate of speed, think about the experiences in your life that are only understood due to a term that has the opposite meaning. Hot vs. cold; sun vs. moon; snow vs. dry, cracked earth.
What opposites can you think of that wouldn’t be able to be understood or explained if you didn’t have something else from which you have a point of reference?
