If you choose to develop psychically or you work with a psychic or a medium, you’ll probably read or hear reference made to a number of terms. Unfortunately, psychic definitions in mainstream dictionaries don’t adequately describe these definitions, so I’ve provided practical definitions here.
Dictionary Definitions for Psychic Terms
The Oxford Dictionary defines “psychic” as:
Relating to or denoting faculties or phenomena that are apparently inexplicable by natural laws, especially involving telepathy or clairvoyance.
The same dictionary defines natural law as:
An observable law relating to natural phenomena.
The dictionary definition of phenomenon is:
A fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question.
Clairvoyance is defined as:
The supposed faculty of perceiving things or events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact.
And the Oxford Dictionary defines telepathy as:
The supposed communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the known senses.
Unfortunately, these definitions are inadequate in explaining these terms in reference to actual use. I was amused by the use of “supposed” and “apparently” in these definitions.
Psychic Development Definitions
A better definition for “psychic” would be:
Relating to or denoting faculties or phenomena that are generally inexplicable by natural laws, especially involving clairalience, clairaudience, claircognizance, clairgustence, clairsentience, clairvoyance, and telepathy.
In the definition above, I’ve changed the modifier to “generally inexplicable” because sometimes psychic phenomena can be observed, such as an apport. (A material object produced by occult means, especially at a séance, that can be perceived by the known senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.)
A more accurate way to define clairvoyance would be:
The ability to visually perceive in the third-eye or externally, people, things, or events in the past, present, or future without the use of normal sensory contact, specifically the sense of sight.
A better definition for telepathy would be:
Communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.
Clairalience defined:
The ability to perceive a scent without the use of normal sensory contact, specifically the sense of smell.
Clairaudience defined:
The ability to perceive a sound without the use of normal sensory contact, specifically the sense of hearing.
Claircognizance defined:
The ability to acquire knowledge without the use of education, study, or normal sensory contact.
Clairgustence defined:
The ability to perceive gustation (the action or faculty of tasting) without the use of normal sensory contact, specifically the sense of taste.
Clairsentience defined:
The ability to perceive a bodily sensation without the use of normal sensory contact, specifically the sense of touch.
I hope the psychic definitions written here provide you with a clearer understanding of these terms.
