Why is a psychic medium blogging about environmental toxins? Unfortunately, one of the downsides of becoming more psychically aware is increased sensitivity—to EVERYTHING…including environmental toxins.
Environmental Toxins Everywhere
At times I’m overwhelmed by the toxic world in which we live. From the fluoride added to our drinking water in the form of manufacturing waste, to the pesticides applied to our food, to the radiation in dental and doctor’s offices, to the aluminum in our deodorant/antiperspirants.
Powerless Anger
When I feel particularly overwhelmed, I feel powerless. It makes me ANGRY that we’ve been lied to about industrial waste fluoride (typically in the form of fluorosilicic acid, which is captured in air pollution control devices of the phosphate fertilizer industry) being beneficial to our health. It makes me ANGRY that we’re supposed to believe the lie that bees dying at astronomical rates is somehow normal and not in any way connected to the overuse of pesticides. And it makes me ANGRY to realize that the “experts” who claim that X-rays are in no way harmful are wrong, and in fact there are studies that show breast tissue exposed to repeated mammograms develops cancerous tumors.
Empowered Action
Yes. Some days I feel powerless and angry.
But most days, I feel empowered by my own action. Because I can choose to make healthier choices.
- I can filter my water.
- I can buy organic, locally sourced produce or grow my own.
- I can opt out of the recommended medical and dental X-rays and instead use thermography to identify potential issues that are presented.
- I can use a deodorant that does not contain aluminum.
Water
Although I’ve taken steps to mitigate the issue of chemicals in my water, I still haven’t found a perfect solution to drinking clean water. There are so many chemicals added to municipal water systems that it’s difficult to find a perfect solution. Filtering helps, but doesn’t eliminate fluoride and many of the other harmful toxins. Reverse osmosis will clean the water of all toxins, but unfortunately, some research suggests that drinking RO water also leaches the nutrients out of your bones. Therefore, I’m still on a quest. In the meantime, I filter my water with a basic water filtration pitcher.
Food
I’ve had a small garden in my backyard for years. A few years back I also started purchasing a share in a CSA (community supported agriculture) each year. Our farmer is very careful about her growing practices including pest mitigation, fertilization, etc. I am able to cut our food bill down and also increase the nutrients we ingest by purchasing a veggie and fruit share that I (generally) receive within a day or so after it has been picked off the plant or harvested from the ground.
X-Rays and Thermography
I decline regular, routine dental x-rays, and instead allow x-rays to be taken on a much less frequent basis. After a bad mammography experience and reading about the massive increase of cancerous tumors that are linked to mammography, I personally refuse to use mammography. I’ve found what I feel is a good alternative in thermography. Thermography can detect issues throughout the body, using non-invasive thermal imaging, which can not only identify potential cancerous issues but also infections.
Antiperspirant and Aluminum
Aluminum toxicity has been linked to many health issues. Although mainstream medical journals tend to dismiss this connection, I feel it’s important to mitigate potential risk to my health by decreasing my exposure where possible. Unfortunately, it’s plentiful in numerous household products including baking ingredients, pots/pans, municipal water supplies, and deodorant/antiperspirant. I am careful to purchase non-aluminum baking ingredients. I’ve also been on a quest to find deodorant without aluminum for a long time. My first recommendation is to get rid of antiperspirants. Our bodies NEED to sweat out toxins. How can using chemicals to plug sweat glands possibly be a healthy approach? Then I recommend finding an alternative to aluminum-based deodorants. My quest to find a natural deodorant ebbs and flows as my interest wanes and is reignited. I’ve tried countless health-food store brands of deodorant without success. I also tried using essential oils and toyed with the idea of creating my own deodorant.
Unfortunately, I found the “natural” deodorants I experimented with either:
- Didn’t work for me (can you say “STINKY!?”) or
- Caused me to develop rashes or sensitivity to the products that were unmanageable.
Recently, my quest was again reignited and I found a product available through a local company that actually works. I haven’t been using it long, but so far, so good. I am happy to report that my armpits are happy and deodorized.
These are ways I’m combatting my overwhelm. I am not a doctor, nor do I give medical advice. However, I personally feel it is incumbent upon all of us to find healthier alternatives than exposing ourselves to potentially toxic chemicals in our daily lives.
Please share your thoughts about environmental toxins and what you’re doing to live a healthier life.
