Maitland: I don’t want to sound preachy, but people just need to chill.
With all of the changes going on it’s going to gradually get more intense especially through the Fall. I think you will see a lot of people reacting strange. So it’s really important…I know we talk about it all of the time, but it’s really important to remember your center and to keep centered and grounded. It’s easy to get caught up in all of the things going on around you and all of the emotions in people, picking up other people’s emotions. A lot of people unfortunately don’t have the tools to know how to deal with the changes that are happening so they choose distractions—self-destructive things like alcohol or things that aren’t really helping like too much TV or trying to escape everything because they’re not sure how to process it.
I just want to try and put it out there maybe as you are talking to people, you see people having a hard time, people that you know that haven’t necessarily been studying spiritual stuff you can try and let them know some simple grounding things that we talk about.
One is BREATHING. Just breathing. Taking a minute to take a few deep breaths, and if you can, close your eyes. Although sometimes in public you can’t close your eyes because people might look at you or you may feel too vulnerable. It’s great to use the other balancing techniques when you have time but in the moment when you need to chill immediately, actually just doing the breathing is a really good one that you can do right away. Do two or three deep, quick breaths and try to focus your mind on the breaths because if you focus your mind on breathing and feeling the air coming into your lungs that brings you back and clears your head and stops the little emotional chain reaction that is going on.
