When Kent and I began developing our psychic abilities, we were drawn to professionals who looked and sounded “normal”. For us, it was a big enough departure to study metaphysics and develop psychically. There was no way my left-brained self could embrace the costumes some psychics and mediums choose to employ.*
Psychic development is offered by many practicing psychics, but our guides led us to a school that was patterned after a college education experience. For us, it was important that our instructors looked like every day people—normal, ordinary people who just happened to have a more developed “sixth sense”.
When the time came for us to develop the “Kent and Cindy Approach” to providing psychic medium readings, we drew upon the numerous psychics and mediums we had retained as part of our psychic development. We found that once again, we were drawn to the “normal” looking professionals who demonstrated some discernible structure. I found it particularly helpful to compare and contrast the different individuals to get a sense of the type of reading that gave me the most comfort and left me with the best sense of value for my money. For us, we chose a structured approach. We offer education to anyone seeking a psychic medium through our FAQ blog category and we offer preparation guidance in our session confirmation e-mails to our clients. We encourage each client to follow our preparation guidance to receive the best experience possible.
Although metaphysical work is more mainstream than it was 10 or even 5 years ago, it is still not widely accepted in all circles. Although we are proud of our work, it isn’t usually a topic of conversation we share when we first meet someone new. However, we have found that more and more, people in our industry look more mainstream. We know psychic and medium colleagues who work in white-collar, professional offices using their analytical skills during the week and their psychic skills on the weekends, or like me, professionals who have retired from corporate America to provide this work full-time.
A level of professionalism has come to this industry that wasn’t widely seen in the past. I am excited to see the marketing materials, websites, newsletters, and blogs of my psychic medium colleagues are now mostly on par with other for-profit businesses. Because that’s what this work is. It’s a business. We’re in the services industry. Just as I provided management consulting and information technology project management consulting in the past, I now provide translating services for your dead loved ones who desire to communicate with you.
So yes, I look normal, because I AM normal. I just have an extraordinary job in which I’m honored to work.
*Small side note: Just as we are drawn to psychics and mediums that look “normal”, some clients are drawn to professionals who choose to dress in costume and create esoteric stage names. Obviously both styles serve a purpose. We encourage each person seeking this service to really consider the style of the professional as well as the professional’s skill.
