Recently, I heard somebody say, “Farmers of the past must have either been the most well-balanced people on the planet or raging alcoholics because they were alone with their thoughts for such long stretches of time.”
Most people in today’s world don’t want to spend a lot of time alone with their thoughts. Every day I observe people distracting themselves in myriad ways so as not to actually be reflective and ponder their own thoughts.
It can be uncomfortable…
It can be uncomfortable to be alone with your thoughts. When alone with your thoughts, it might occur to you that it’s just possible that the argument to which you were a party this morning might have been partially or even mostly your fault. When alone with your thoughts, you may suddenly realize that you aren’t living up to your full potential. When alone with your thoughts, you may be so anxious to escape from your thoughts, that you latch onto any distraction that presents itself.
It can be amazing…
It can be amazing to be alone with your thoughts. When alone with your thoughts, you may discover that you live in a beautiful world with interesting surprises. When alone with your thoughts, you may solve a problem that has been plaguing you for weeks. When alone with your thoughts, you may realize that you want to create more space to be alone with your thoughts more often.
It can be uncomfortable to be alone with your thoughts…It can be amazing to be alone with your thoughts.
